How it works

It reads your library on the device

Cleanly looks through your photos with Apple's Vision framework and sorts what it finds into piles. Your progress through the library is the one thing the app keeps score of.

It says what it noticed, and how sure it is

Blurry shots, empty frames, and screenshots get flagged. Near-identical shots are grouped, and the sharpest is put forward as a keeper — unless the difference isn't real, in which case Cleanly says so instead of guessing.

Common questions

How does Cleanly work?

Cleanly scans your photo library on your device and flags likely junk (blurry shots, empty frames, screenshots) and groups duplicates and bursts together. Review what it found in Grid or Swipe mode, and decide what stays.

Is my data private?

Yes. Cleanly has no account and no server. All analysis runs on your device using Apple's Vision framework, and your review history stays on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Nothing is uploaded. The privacy policy spells out the one network path in full.

Why does Cleanly need Photos access?

Cleanly can only review, group, and flag photos it can see. If your library is set to optimize storage, Cleanly may briefly download the full-resolution copy of a photo from iCloud to analyze it, the same way opening it in the Photos app would. That photo is never uploaded anywhere.

What happens when I delete a photo in Cleanly?

Deleted photos move into Cleanly's Trash first, a safety net inside the app. Removing them from your library for good requires an explicit two-step confirmation, plus iOS's own system prompt. Nothing is removed from your library in a single tap.

How does duplicate detection decide which photo to keep?

Cleanly groups near-identical shots taken close together in time (or, when available, in the same place) and ranks them by sharpness and other signals to suggest a keeper. When it isn't confident enough to pick one, it says so instead of guessing, and leaves the decision to you.

Why does a photo I like show up as favourited?

Swiping down on a photo, or marking it a favourite, writes directly to Apple Photos' own Favourites, so it stays in sync everywhere Photos appears, including on other devices signed into your iCloud account.

What does the AI tab show?

The AI tab is where all of Cleanly's on-device findings live: how many photos have been analyzed, what was found, and roughly how much storage you could reclaim by clearing it out. Each feature can be switched off individually if you'd rather Cleanly not run it.
